Hello Members

First of all thank you for your patents and a big thank you for returning to the site to see how we are getting on.

To us it seems like an eternity since we first launched and the succession of problems encountered have been both frustrating but also hugely beneficial because whilst waiting for problems to be resolved it has freed up time for us to focus on site organisation, navigation and content.  We feel it is important to keep you informed about the progress we are making and how we see the site when we launch the subscription stage in our development so here is a few of the ideas we are playing with.

Video encoding

The biggest problem we have at present is the encoding of videos to add to the site, I was producing videos in one format and then they had to be encoded to a new format to be uploaded to the site. Somewhere between encoding and uploading we encountered a problem and that is still unresolved. To add to that I had over 20 videos to be uploaded but because we cant encode them you are unable to see them. To solve the problem I have purchased a video editing program that allows me to save the videos in to the format needed for immediate upload.

Session Plan Software

I have been investigating the software that allows me to show sessions plans. Where video is great for showing technique and giving you a general idea of the set up of a drill its not accurate when it comes to session plans. In order to give you a clear illustration of a session organisation we will use the relevant software program.

Membership Navigation and Organisation

To provide a fair and more user friendly service we have divided the site in to editions with each edition being similar to a publication like loaded, match magazine or any other monthly magazine. We will have a feature each month which focuses on one specific aspect of goalkeeping and in addition we will also add a number of other features on other aspects to the different areas of the site. For example the first two editions may look something like this

Edition 1

  • Main feature - The set position, head and hands,
  •  Training Field - 5 handling drills for young goalkeepers
  •   Performance Management - Using your vision to help your confidence
  •  Sports Science – Hydration management
  •  Tactic Zone – Start positions during open play, theory 1

Edition 2

  •     Main Feature - Positioning for angled Shot stopping
  •    Tactic Zone – Pre match nutrition
  •    Performance Management – mental approach to games
  •   Sports Science – Co-ordination & strength development in the upper body
  •    Training Field – 5 drill to develop touch and passing
  •    Training Field – 5 ball familiarity drill for home

If you take the ongoing subscription option then you will have access to all editions as they appear on the site month by month and if you join after the first edition you have the option to purchase any of the previous stages that are available, making the choice on what you see based on the content of each edition.

So once again a big thanks for your patients and as soon as we are complete we will let you know. Jim Hollman

An Intro from James

Hello, I’m Jim Hollman, thank you for logging on and welcome to my website. Whether you are a goalkeeper, or a coach, from Sunday league to the Premiership, I hope you will find that all the content will give you a professional insight into what it takes to become a great goalkeeper.

A number of coaches, including myself, look back and wish that we had the knowledge of coaching while we were still playing. Understanding what makes a good goalkeeper, from a different perspective, will ultimately make us infinitely better goalkeepers.

image0068.jpg

If you’re anything like me, then I know that you are here to learn, and if you are a coach, then you want to be better because it is your players that benefit from your knowledge. What they take away from your sessions will affect them for the rest of their careers.

In that, you share one of my philosophies on coaching,

‘Coaching goalkeepers is not about the coach, it is about the goalkeepers. When they get better as goalkeepers, we have improved as coaches’

Now it is important I say to you that there is no wrong way to coach goalkeepers. We have all seen coaches who we think could be better and we have all seen coaches that, in our opinions, are extremely good. The important thing we must understand is that every coach will have had a positive effect on the goalkeepers they work with at some point. Often, just by watching them, you will learn something new. What they are doing is what they believe to be correct and in this game of opinions we are entitled to our own views and use of tactics, and should always respect someone else’s.

With that in mind we edge towards another of my beliefs when it comes to coaching, we must be flexible and maintain an open mind. The game is constantly evolving and different goalkeepers require different methods of training. For us to be better coaches and to get the best out of our goalkeepers we must continually evolve with the game. Whilst sticking to our beliefs about goalkeeping, we must also cater for the goalkeepers we coach.

‘The more flexible you are in your mind the better a coach you will be’

This site contains my opinions, beliefs, philosophies and theories on goalkeeping and the programmes, drills and techniques I have used throughout my coaching career. This is my perspective, and I have found they have brought great success to the goalkeepers I have worked with.

As I stated earlier, there is no right or wrong way to coach. None of this is written in stone, it’s not the gospel and it’s not “the” way to coach. It is a combination of my beliefs and techniques, my style of coaching and the drills I use, that make it what it is.
So look, read, and take it all in. Agree, disagree, use what you want, and disregard what you don’t. Whether it improves your knowledge, reinforces what you already know, goes against everything you believe or stimulates you to explore new techniques and theories of your own, there will be something in the site that helps you and your goalkeepers become better.

Once again thanks for visiting the site and all the best in helping the goalkeepers you work with.
